Receptor tyrosine kinase-like orphan receptor 1 (ROR1) (Gene ID:4919) is a gene that encodes the cell surface protein known as ROR1. This receptor is a member of the receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) family and contributes to a variety of cellular processes, including development and cancer. Initially identified as an orphan receptor with unknown ligand and function, ROR1 has since been discovered to be associated with key signaling pathways during embryonic development, garnering attention for its involvement in cancer. During embryonic development, ROR1 regulates important processes, such as tissue and organ formation. ROR1 is expressed in a variety of embryonic tissues and contributes to the development of organs like the heart, lungs, and other organs. ROR1 has been found to be expressed in certain types of cancer including leukemias, lymphomas, and solid tumors such as breast and ovarian cancers. In these malignancies, ROR1 promotes cell proliferation, survival and metastasis while also contributing to disease progression and resistance against treatment. ROR1 has emerged as a potential therapeutic target in cancer therapy. Strategies to inhibit ROR1 signaling, such as monoclonal antibodies and small molecule inhibitors, are being explored to block its tumor-promoting effects and enhance the efficacy of cancer therapy.
